NBAPOSN: Employee Position Review

Overview

This form is used to define a position. A position has to be defined in Banner to be able to assign an employee to a position.

There are two position types:

Single: position identified by an individual position number
Pooled: position identified by a generic number and used for multiple employees

Single/Individual
Position Numbers

Faculty:
- For new Teaching and Research Faculty positions in areas reporting to the Provost Office, position numbers are obtained from the Provost’s Office; all other position numbers obtained from HR Operations.
- For new Faculty positions, position numbers are established using Position Establishment Request form.
Hourly:
- When hiring an employee into an hourly position, complete the position # in the NBAJOBS section on the PAF by adding an H before the position class (i.e., H19011 for an Hourly Admin Office Spec I). Also include the correct position class (Role title) on the PAF in the NBAPOSN section. H00001 is not a valid hourly position and PAFs containing this position # will be rejected.

Pooled Position Numbers

Adjunct: For Adjunct positions, a pooled position number is used based on whether or not the faculty member provides credit instruction.

Adjunct - Elderhostel Instructor	J00005	Adjunct faculty who provide instruction in the Elderhostel Program
Adjunct - Non-Credit Instructor	J00006	Adjunct faculty who provide non-credit based instruction that does not fit into one of the above categories
Adjunct - Academic Research/Other	J00007	Adjunct faculty engaged in academic research and research-related activities as their primary duty, or other similar duties that are clearly academic in nature and don't fit into another category
Adjunct - Medicine	J00008	Adjunct faculty engaged in the practice of medicine

Graduate Assistants: Graduate Assistant position numbers are either pooled or unique, based on the following criteria:

12-Month Grad Asst Student Worker	AF0012	May be E&G or grant funded. No limit to number of GASWs allowed. It is a function only of amount of money available to fund. Graduate Assistantship
12-Month Grad Asst Sponsored Funds	TR0012	No limit to number of GASFs allowed. It is a function only of amount of money available to fund such positions from grant and/or overhead funds. Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant
12-Month Grad Asst E&G (GAEG)	Individual TA Position Number	Approved for unfunded scholarship tuition support E&G funded. Tuition paid by Graduate School. Position number assigned by Graduate School. Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant

NBAPOSN Fields Definitions

End Date: Date (DD-MON-YYYY: i.e., 10-APR-2010) of position abolishment.
Position Class:
- The State Role title of a UAP, classified, or hourly employee that describes a broad grouping of similar jobs. Use the crosswalk for University Job Titles to determine position class. See Role Codes and Titles at www.dhrm.virginia.gov/compensation/careergroups/cgdlist.html.
- For faculty employees, enter rank: Assoc. Prof.; Asst. Prof.; Assoc. Prof. & Eminent Scholar; Instructor; Professor; Prof. & Eminent Scholar.
OTC Title: The Occupational Title Code (OTC) is part of the federal system; the OTC Title (formerly, SOC) , which represents a more distinct job title and detailed job classification than a Role Title. See SOC information at www.bls.gov/SOC/HOME.HTM.
OTC Code: The federal OTC Code (formerly, SOC Code) of which is generated by selecting an OTC Title (see above). See SOC information at www.bls.gov/SOC/HOME.HTM.
